Mohali: Mohali State Special Operation Cell has busted an illegal arms smuggling module and arrested an accused. The arrested accused was preparing to commit a major crime. Mohali: Mohali State Special Operation Cell has busted an illegal arms smuggling module and arrested an accused. The arrested accused was preparing to commit a major crime. Police have recovered four illegal pistols from the accused.

The accused has been identified as Vinod Kumar, alias Rahul Gurmeet Nagar, a resident of Gyaspura, Ludhiana. The SSOC has registered an FIR against the accused under the U/S 25 Arms Act, 61(2) BNS. The accused has been arrested by a team led by DSP Gurcharan Singh.

An investigation by Mohali SSOC revealed that the accused is involved in the supply of illegal arms and ammunition. He is coming from Ludhiana towards the Kharar area to deliver illegal arms and ammunition from Madhya Pradesh to Punjab, unknown identity. On being detected, SSOC laid a trap and arrested accused Vinod Kumar alias Rahul from near Toll Plaza, Gharuan (Kharar) and recovered 2.32 bore pistols from his possession at the time of arrest.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the arrested accused, Vinod Kumar alias Rahul, during his stay in Ludhiana jail, came in contact with gangsters sitting inside and outside the jail, and now he was working as an illegal arms courier for them and was supplying illegal arms and ammunition to various gangs. The arrested accused, Vinod Kumar, alias Rahul, has a criminal background in the state, and cases of theft and snatching are registered against him.

During interrogation, the arrested accused also revealed that in the last month, he had smuggled two heavy consignments of illegal arms, which he recovered from village Jasondi, Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh, and transported both of them to the Mohali area. Further investigation resulted in the recovery of two more.32 bore pistols from the accused, making the total recovery of four pistols.
