After flagging off the cycle rally dedicated to the Armed Forces Flag Day from War Memorial, Bougainvillea Park located in Sector-3 here, Defense Services Welfare Minister said that the government has increased the ex-gratia amount for the heirs of the martyred soldiers of the state from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore.

He also added that the state government has decided to amend ‘The East Punjab War Awards Act-1948’, due to which the financial assistance of 83 beneficiaries has been increased from Rs 10,000 per annum to Rs 20,000 per annum. Under ‘The East Punjab War Awards Act-1948’, the Government of Punjab provides War Jagir as financial assistance to those parents whose only children or two to three children served in the Indian Army during the Second World War, National Emergency 1962 and 1971.

Defense Services Welfare Minister said that this cycle rally will pass through all the districts of Punjab and will conclude in Chandigarh on December 7, 2023 on the occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day. He said that the main objective of the cycle rally is to spread awareness among the people about the sacrifices made by the soldiers for the protection of the country, to create a feeling of patriotism among the youth and encourage them to join the armed forces, to educate the people of the state about Flag Day.
