Amritsar: The Municipal Corporation has not yet deposited the 4.50 crores fine the Punjab Pollution Control Board imposed for violating the Solid Waste Management 2016 rules from 1 July 2020 to 31 March 2024. At the same time, PPCB has now issued an order to deposit a bank guarantee of 50 lakhs for violating the rules. Earlier, in 2019-2020, about 25 lakh bank guarantees were deposited. PPCB had encashed it after the rules were violated.
Even after this, the corporation could not find a permanent solution to the settlement of dump-garbage lifting. Punjab Pollution Control Board officials found illegal dumping of garbage at Ranjit Avenue Ground near Anand Amrit Park, near ESI Hospital, Majitha Road, Milk Plant Verka, Mehta Road near Railway Bridge, Saktari Bagh, Gurnam Nagar Park, Katra Sher Singh near Telephone Exchange, Sultanwind Canal, and Suraj Chanda Tara Cinema.
