Nabha (Punjab), July 7: Former Minister of State for External Affairs and senior Congress leader Preneet Kaur has sparked political debate with her sharp criticism of the Punjab government during her visit to Nabha on Monday. Speaking to the media, she responded to the recent arrest of Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikramjit Singh Majithia, calling the allegations “questionable.”
Preneet Kaur said, “If these are the same old allegations for which the Supreme Court had already acquitted him, then the arrest is completely wrong. If there is something new, I am not aware of it. I trust the court will take the right decision.”
Kaur was in Nabha to offer condolences at the residence of former Nagar Council president Rajneesh Mittal Shanti, who passed away recently.
On the issue of sacrilege incidents and the government’s response, Preneet Kaur remarked that while the Punjab government claims to be introducing strict laws, there is little actual progress. “Roads are broken, no grants are being given to villages or towns, and there is no real development on the ground. This government is only focused on photo ops, not action,” she said.
Targeting the AAP government on flood preparedness, she warned, “If, God forbid, floods hit Punjab again, the consequences will be disastrous. We saw the damage caused by the Ghaggar river floods, where entire homes were destroyed. CM Bhagwant Mann promised compensation—even for goats—but nothing has been delivered at the ground level.”
Commenting on the recent murder of a textile trader in Abohar, Kaur said the law-and-order situation in Punjab has completely deteriorated. “Every day, a new crime is reported. It pains me to see how far our Punjab has fallen,” she added.
