Ludhiana:
Within a week after a gang of miscreants attempted to rob a grocery store owner while using pistols, the Khanna police busted the gang with the arrest of seven of its members.
The police have also recovered a total of four pistols including a country-made firearm along with nine live cartridges, five magazines, and two motorcycles without registration numbers, from the possession of the accused.
According to the police, of the seven accused arrested, two were nabbed following exchange of fire between the accused and the police team.
The arrested accused have been identified as Vikramjeet Singh alias Chhinda, Deepak alias Deepi – residents of Dugri in Ludhiana, Gurdeep Singh alias Deepi of Tangrala in Fatehgarh Sahib, Abhimanyu alias Mannu of Basant Nagar in Khanna, Sahil alias Dholi of Khanna, Narinder Singh alias Noori of Ghutind village in Fatehgarh Sahib and Mandeep Singh alias Dikki of village Gill in Ludhiana.
While addressing the media, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP – Khanna) Jyoti Yadav Bains said that the incident had occurred on April 8 at Vivek Karyana Store located on Malerkotla Road in Khanna. As per the complainant Munish Singla, four miscreants turned up at his store carrying pistols and they assaulted him as well as threatened him while open firing in the robbery attempt. However, the accused had fled seeing the locals gathering at the spot.
After the incident, the team acted swiftly and traced three of the accused including Vikramjeet, Deepak and Gurdeep. They were arrested on April 13 and during their interrogation, they revealed the names of other accused involved in the crime and all the accused were nominated in the FIR and subsequently arrested on Monday.
SSP said that after arresting accused Abhimanyu who gave shelter to the accused, today when the team went to arrest Narinder and Mandeep, they opened fire at the police party while trying to escape. However, the team retaliated and the two were held.
SSP added that the gang was notorious for violent crimes and drug trafficking. Five of the arrested accused are already facing several FIRs.
The accused Mandeep is already facing 12 FIRs for serious crimes including cases of murder, attempted murder, dacoity, and illegal arms supply. Besides, Vikramjeet is facing three cases, including charges of drug trafficking and culpable homicide. Deepak is facing three FIRs including cases of drug peddling, arms possession, and house trespass. Gurdeep is facing five FIRs related to attempted murder, drug smuggling, kidnapping, and arms possession in Ludhiana and Zirakpur while the accused Abhimanyu is wanted in cases of drug peddling in Khanna and robbery in Dera Bassi.
