Chandigarh: This time in Punjab, people will be able to burst only green crackers on Diwali, Guruparv and Christmas. The Punjab government has taken this decision in view of environment degradation and air pollution. Secondly, there will be a complete ban on bursting and storing a series of firecrackers. At the same time, firecrackers will not be sold on e-commerce platforms including Flipkart and Amazon.
All DCs have been instructed to run a campaign to make people aware of the harmful effects of firecrackers. Apart from this, firecrackers will be sold only at fixed places designated by administration.
The government has fixed the time for bursting firecrackers. People will be able to burst firecrackers only for two hours on the night of Diwali. Firecrackers are allowed to burst only from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Diwali (October 31, 2024). On Guruparva (November 15, 2024), bursting of crackers is allowed from 4:00 am to 5:00 am and from 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
Similarly, bursting of crackers will be allowed from 11:55 am to 12:30 pm on Christmas Eve (December 25-26, 2024) and New Year’s Eve (December 31, 2024 – January 1, 2025).
In the order issued by the government, it has been made clear that only those with license will be able to sell crackers. Crackers will be sold only at limited places. At the same time, storage, display, or sale of crackers with sound above the prescribed decibel level will be prohibited. The rules of the Supreme Court and NGT have already been decided in this regard. People have been appealed to cooperate in this regard.
