Only Green firecrackers will be allowed during upcoming festivals: Meet Hayer

Providing details Environment Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that in compliance with various guidelines of the Honorable Supreme Court, National Green Tribunal (NGT), Punjab and Haryana High Court and Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), The state government is encouraging the use of less polluting firecrackers or green crackers.

He said that since the festive season of Diwali, Gurupurva, Christmas and New Year’s Eve is approaching, the Department of Science, Technology and Environment will allow only less polluting firecrackers.

Meet Hayer said that only low polluting crackers can be burst on Diwali (8:00 pm to 10:00 pm), Gurupurva (4:00 am to 05:00 am and 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm), Christmas Eve (11:55 pm to 12:30 am) and New Year’s Eve (11:55 pm to 12:30 am).

The environment minister said the manufacture, stock, distribution, sale and use of (chain crackers) has been banned in the state. He said that it has also been directed that the sale of permitted firecrackers will be done only through licensed traders. Meet Hayer said that any e-commerce website including Flipkart, Amazon and others will not accept any online orders within the state of Punjab and online sales will not be affected.
