He said that we appeal to the Central Government to reconsider this decision and respect the rights of the people of Punjab.

Chandigarh: Kotkapura MLA and Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan strongly condemned the decision to rename the post of UT Advisor as Chief Secretary. He said that only Punjab has the right over Chandigarh.

Speaker Sandhwan said that this is being seen as ignoring the sensitive issue of the status of Chandigarh, which has been a matter of dispute between Punjab and the Central Government for a long time. He said that the re-nomination is not only an administrative mess but also an attempt to undermine the legitimate rights of Punjab over Chandigarh.

He said that we appeal to the Central Government to reconsider this decision and respect the rights of the people of Punjab. Sandhwan said that only Punjab has the right over Chandigarh which was built by destroying the villages of Punjab. The Punjab Government has always been insisting that Chandigarh is an integral part of the state and any decision related to its administration should be taken in consultation with the state government.
