Ludhiana: OPD of all private hospitals will remain completely closed in Ludhiana today. IMA has taken this decision after the incident of rape and murder of a female doctor in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata. It has been announced to close the services of doctors of modern medicine across the country from 6 a.m. today.

Services will be started after 6 a.m. on Sunday, August 18. Regular OPD will not run today, and elective surgeries will also not be done. Former President of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Ludhiana, Dr Gaurav Sachdeva, said that all the doctors will gather in IMA Hall at 9:30 am today. All will keep the OPD of their hospitals closed.

No doctor will do elective surgery. Dr. Sachdeva said that everyone should take responsibility for their area because all OPDs are closed. If someone is working, ask him to close the OPD, or IMA President Dr. Preetpal and Secretary Dr. R. Rampal can contact senior member Dr. Manoj Sobti and inform him.

Charitable hospitals are being contacted by IMA to close OPDs. Some doctors said that if they agree, all can take mass leave. Dr. Sachdeva said that unless all the doctors gather in large numbers, their protest will not be successful.

Dr. Sachdeva said that the incident of gang rape of a female doctor in Kolkata is very shameful. The police have taken lax action. An attempt has been made to destroy evidence. Today all the doctors of India are demanding answers from the central government and state governments regarding their security. Today at 9.30 am, doctors from all districts will unite in the IMA hall and take out a rally. If their demands are not heard, the struggle will intensify.
