Jalandhar Range Police stands firm in its resolve to continue such drives to save the community from the curse of drugs.

Ludhiana: In order to make Punjab a drug-free state as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police on Sunday conducted a massive state-level Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at identified drug hotspots and vulnerable areas with a focus on controlling the drug supply at ‘Point of Sale’.

The operation was conducted on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav from 11am to 2pm simultaneously in all 28 Police districts of the state. Range ADGPs/IGPs/DIGs and CPs/SSPs were asked to personally supervise the operation in their respective district.

Similarly, the conviction rate in NDPS Act has also improved from 59 per cent in 2018 to 81 per cent in 2023, he added.

The CPs/SSPs were told to plan this operation in a meticulous manner by identifying drug Hotspots— the points of sale of drugs and psychotropic substances in their respective districts or certain areas which have become shelter/safe haven for drug peddlers, to carry out this operation amid massive deployment of the police force.

Sharing details of CASO, the Special DGP said that over 450 Police teams, comprising over 3000 police personnel, have cordoned off as many as 280 drug hotspots.

During the operation, the Police registered 140 first information reports (FIRs) after arresting 166, he said.

The operation against drug smugglers has been launched under the leadership of DIG Harmanbir Singh Gill, Jalandhar Range. The police team has conducted a raid at Ganna village and is being led by DIG Harman Bir Singh Gill himself. A comprehensive CASO (Cordon and Search Operation) was carried out in Jalandhar Range districts under the supervision of DIG, particularly targeting the drug-affected areas of Jalandhar Rural, Kapurthala, and Hoshiarpur.

To show solidarity and boost the morale of the police personnel involved in the operation, Harmanbir Singh Gill, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Jalandhar Range, personally visited village Ganna, PS Phillaur, and other places to oversee the proceedings and ensure complete execution of the operation. The presence of DIG underlined the commitment of the police force to eliminate the drug menace from the area.

The operation conducted by the Range Police witnessed the deployment of an extensive police force and resources to ensure the success of the mission. The primary objective was to identify, apprehend, and dismantle the network of drug smugglers active in these areas. During the operation, several search and seizure activities were carried out in various hotspots known for drug-related activities. The police teams conducted meticulous searches in these areas, which resulted in the detention of several people suspected to be involved in drug trafficking. A considerable quantity of narcotics was also recovered during the searches.

Jalandhar Range Police stands firm in its resolve to continue such drives to save the community from the curse of drugs. The success of this CASO operation is a testimony to the dedication and vigilance of the police personnel. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to drug trafficking to the nearest police station. Together, we can build a safe and drug-free society.

The drug-affected areas of Jalandhar Rural, Kapurthala, and Hoshiarpur were specifically targeted under the CASO operation.
