Chandigarh: An orange alert has been issued for fog in Punjab today as well. The effect of fog has been seen in many districts of Punjab since Thursday night. Due to the lack of sunshine yesterday, the day temperature has dropped by 3.6 degrees.
The day temperature of cities across Punjab has been recorded between 11 to 20 degrees. At the same time, the air route has also been badly affected since 10 pm. Visibility reached zero in Amritsar after 10 pm.
Before landing at Amritsar airport, the flight from Malaysia had to circle in the air for about 2 hours and finally had to be diverted to Delhi. Apart from Amritsar, the effect of fog was also seen in Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Faridkot and Moga.
According to the Meteorological Center, an orange alert has been issued today regarding dense fog in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Patiala and Malerkotla. Visibility here can be 50 meters or less. Apart from this, a yellow alert has been issued regarding fog in all other districts of Punjab.
Due to lack of sunshine on Thursday, the difference between day and night temperatures was very less. While the minimum temperature in Amritsar was 7.2 degrees, the maximum temperature of the day was recorded at only 11.7 degrees. The day temperature in Bathinda was 16.6 degrees, 14.7 degrees in SBS Nagar, 12.6 in Moga, 12.8 degrees in Ropar.
According to the Meteorological Department, a western disturbance is active near Rajasthan, which may calm down today. After this, a new western disturbance will be active from December 18. Its effect will be seen in the hilly areas. Due to snowfall and rain on the mountains, the winds coming from there to the plains will be colder.
