Now a letter has been sent to the procurement agencies by the Food and Civil Supplies Department regarding the lifting.

Chandigarh: After the strictness of the Punjab and Haryana High Court regarding the lifting of paddy in the grain markets of Punjab, the state government has also come into action mode. Now a letter has been sent to the procurement agencies by the Food and Civil Supplies Department regarding the lifting.

The order of the High Court has been cited in the letter. Also, the agencies have been clearly told that the crop should be lifted from the mandis by November 26 at any cost. Lifting should be ensured within 72 hours of crop purchase. So that the farmers do not have to face any problems.

So far 165.77 lakh tonnes of paddy has reached the mandis of the state. In this, 163.36 lakh tonnes of paddy has been purchased. Whereas out of the purchased crop, 141.92 lakh tonnes have been lifted. About 22 lakh tonnes of crop is yet to be lifted from the mandis. However, the procurement agencies are still working in the mandis.

This time, the issue of paddy lifting had heated up from the very beginning. In this matter, the Punjab and Central governments were at loggerheads. The matter reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The court ordered both the governments to settle the matter by holding a meeting.

The issue also arose in the by-elections held on four seats in the state on November 20. The situation was such that in Barnala and Gidderbaha, farmers even campaigned against the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and BJP candidates on this issue.
