In a major operation, the team of Counter-Intelligence Amritsar has busted an illegal arms smuggling module linked to Pakistan.

Amritsar, April 27: In a major operation, the team of Counter-Intelligence Amritsar has busted an illegal arms smuggling module linked to Pakistan. During the operation, Abhishek Kumar, a resident of Amritsar, has been arrested. Seven pistols (five .30 bore and two Glock 9 mm), four live cartridges (.30 bore) and Rs 1,50,000 in cash have been recovered from his possession.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a person named Nasha, living in Australia, was smuggling arms and ammunition through the India-Pakistan border in connivance with smugglers based in Pakistan. His local associates, Jodhbir Singh alias Jodha and Abhishek Kumar, were playing an active role in this network.

Connection with the hawala network

The investigation has also revealed that Abhishek Kumar and Jodhbir Singh alias Jodha are also involved in money transactions through hawala. This makes it clear that they are part of a larger criminal network, which is not only involved in arms smuggling but also in financial crimes.

FIR registered, investigation underway

An FIR has been registered in this case at the SSOC (Special Cell of Counter-Intelligence), Amritsar. Police are searching for other accomplices and the backwards and forward links of the entire network are being thoroughly investigated.

Strict action by counterintelligence

A senior officer of counterintelligence said that strict action against such networks will continue in view of national security. Special vigilance is being maintained in border areas to prevent Pakistan-sponsored activities.
