Passenger held for concealing gold in handles of utensils at ICP Attari, Rs 1.62 crore worth gold recovered

Amritsar: A female passenger has been arrested for smuggling gold by concealing it in the handles of utensils. As per information, a female passenger was returning from Pakistan and heading towards Noida via land route through Integrated Check post (ICP) Attari. During the regular search, officials found utensils in her baggage.

To their surprise, while examining her baggage utensils brought by her looked suspicious. Officials carried out the investigation and further examination revealed the handles of the utensils were made of gold disguised with silver colour coating. The female passenger has been detained and further investigation is going on.

The 24 Carat gold in handles of utensils (14 in no.) was seized on 01.08.2024 under relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Customs department is carrying out further investigation in the matter.

Utensils brought by the female passenger in her baggage.

The customs have recovered the gold disguised in the silver color coating. The said gold is of 24 carats. Total 14 handles of bowls and buckets were recovered and the worth of gold recovered is Rs 1,62,30,953. The weight of said gold is 2332 grams.
