PCMS doctors to go on strike from January 20, cite unfulfilled demands

At that time, people had to face a lot of problems due to the closure of OPD services. On September 14, the Health Minister came in front of the media after a meeting at Punjab Bhawan and promised that their demands would be met within three weeks.

Chandigarh: Services of government hospitals in Punjab may be affected again. PCMS Doctors Association has once again said that they will go on strike. It has been said that the promises made by the state government while ending the strike last year have not been fulfilled yet.

Doctors said that in the end, they have no option but to go on strike. In September last year, medical officers in all government hospitals of Punjab staged a sit-in protest over their demands related to security and promotion.

At that time, people had to face a lot of problems due to the closure of OPD services. On September 14, the Health Minister came in front of the media after a meeting at Punjab Bhawan and promised that their demands would be met within three weeks.

The doctors’ association had ended the sit-in and restored services under assurances. But even after the stipulated time limit has passed, the government has not taken any concrete steps on both their demands. This has caused deep anger among medical officers. Many specialist doctors are resigning from government services and leaving the hospital.

The association has warned that if the government does not take timely steps on issues related to security and career progression as per the agreement, then they will close OPD services from January 20, 2025 and sit on dharna.

The Doctors Association has called a meeting of the district units on January 12, in which further strategy will be considered. The association said that they are an organization working in the interest of the public. Security in hospitals is important not only for doctors but also for staff and patients.
