PGIMER expands Project Sarathi, launches new app for patients

It aims to encourage wider community participation in helping patients.

Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER)’s flagship volunteer scheme ‘Project Sarathi’ has now been expanded from NSS (National Service Scheme) to open up to all willing student volunteers. It aims to encourage wider community participation in helping patients.

In another important initiative, PGIMER has launched a mobile app to collect feedback from patients – Sarathi Feedback App. Now every Sarathi volunteer will have this app through which they will collect instant feedback from patients and their accompanying family members after the service. This information will help the hospital administration to continuously improve the quality of services.

PGIMER Director Professor Vivek Lal said, “Project Sarathi is a great example of how community participation can improve hospital services. The expansion of volunteer participation and the launch of the feedback app reflect our commitment towards patient-centric care.”

Pankaj Rai, Administrative Deputy Director, PGIMER, said, “The decision to expand beyond NSS to include more students was taken after observing the daily positive interactions between Sarathi volunteers, hospital staff and patients.”

He added, “Since the inception of Project Sarathi, its aim has been to provide proper guidance to patients and their families in a large and complex hospital system like PGIMER. These volunteers act as an emotional support and a source of clear information, especially for patients from rural or remote areas.”

Now, students from any discipline, from any academic institution, can participate in this service. Interested students can send their details by emailing [email protected]. This new structure is a step towards building a strong, inclusive and sensitive youth team.
