Phagwara : Assistant Commissioner of Tax Department dies after being hit by a train

The accident took place near the Phagwara-Jalandhar Nangal railway gate on Sunday.

Jalandhar: An officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Customs died after being hit by a train in Phagwara. The deceased has been identified as Seva Ram son of Puran Ram resident of Sri Guru Ravidas Nagar (Jalandhar).

The accident took place near the Phagwara-Jalandhar Nangal railway gate on Sunday. Phagwara GRP Police has taken the body into possession and sent it to Civil Hospital Phagwara for post-mortem.

Railway station in-charge Jodh Singh said that the deceased has been identified as Seva Ram (59). The deceased was posted as Assistant Commissioner in the Customs Department in Jalandhar and he had arrived with a tape to measure the land of Nangal Railway Gate.

It is being told that when Sewa Ram was preparing to take measurements on the railway line, a passenger train was seen coming from Phagwara to Jalandhar. He immediately crossed the said track and reached another railway line, but in the meantime, a goods train going from Jalandhar to Ludhiana came, which he did not see, and they got hit by the train. As a result, he died on the spot.
