Hoshiarpur, June 28: The investigation into the recent robbery took a major turn when the police and the accused were involved in an encounter in Mahilpur town of Hoshiarpur district. The encounter took place when the police intensified the search for the absconding accused in the robbery of a money exchange centre in village Bham. This area falls under the police station Chabbewal.
Earlier, the police had arrested three accused in this case. After getting concrete information about the location of the remaining two accused, the police chased them and surrounded them in Bani village. The accused, Daljit Singh and Jaswinder Singh, both have several criminal cases registered against them.
On seeing the police, the accused started firing to save themselves, in response to which the police also took action. In this encounter, Daljit Singh was shot in the leg, while Jaswinder Singh was arrested without any injury.
No policeman was injured during the operation. The matter is being further investigated so that more accused involved in the robbery can be identified. This swift action and promptness of the police has given a strong message to the criminals in the area.
