Amritsar, June 10: An encounter took place between arms smugglers and police in Amritsar today. In which one arms smuggler was injured, while the police succeeded in arresting his two other accomplices. Police have recovered three pistols, two live cartridges, drug money worth Rs 70 thousand and a car from the accused.
Rural SSP Maninder Singh informed that the police stopped a suspicious car by setting up a blockade in Thana Gharinda area. A large amount of weapons and cash was found on searching the three youths in the car – Tarsem Singh, Amarpreet Singh and Rajveer Singh.
After police interrogation, the accused Tarsem Singh was taken to Ganda Nala Bhakna area for recovery of more weapons. There, on the pretext of recovering weapons, the accused opened fire from the pistol hidden there. The police fired in retaliation, due to which he got injured. The injured accused has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Drug money recovered
Police have seized huge quantities of weapons, bullets and drug money from the accused.
Police started action by registering FIR
The police have registered a case against the three accused and started action. SSP Maninder Singh said that 402 cases have been registered against smugglers since March 2025. 106 kg of heroin has been seized from them. During this period, drug money worth Rs 1.80 crore has also been recovered.
He said that strict action is being taken to root out drug and arms smuggling in Punjab. This encounter is proof that no criminal will be able to escape the law.
