Jalandhar: Police have increased the number of CCTVs in Jalandhar. Police officer Aatish Bhatia said that due to the Smart City Project, a control center has been set up in Commissionerate Jalandhar. Due to this, a huge camera network has been expanded. During this, 1000 cameras have been installed at 183 junctions with 24/7 monitoring. These include 978 fixed cameras, 15 PTZ cameras, and 10 facial recognition cameras.
He said that the main purpose of monitoring is to improve traffic flow and detect incidents using modern technology. Apart from this, 5 emergency call boxes have been built within the city to facilitate emergency calls from citizens. 25 public address systems and 25 video image displays have also been installed throughout Jalandhar city.
To ensure that every frame is under Commissionerate Police surveillance, 24/7 monitoring shifts are working. Commissionerate Police Jalandhar is also introducing an e-challan facility, which will enable automatic checking of traffic rule violations. It has already played a vital role in detecting 16 incidents of snatching, theft, and other crimes, including molestation and accidents.
Besides, these cameras are being used for VVIP/VIP duty and management of public movement, which shows the effectiveness of the surveillance system.
This comprehensive surveillance system enables the police to keep a vigilant watch on the city’s activities, respond quickly to incidents, and contribute to crime prevention and public safety.
