Jalandhar: People upset due to frequent electric cuts and lack of water supply protested near Pratappura on Nakodar Highway in Jalandhar, Punjab. Protesting people against the basic amenities blocked the highway. As per people, the complaints about water and electricity have been made earlier many times but nothing happened. After seeing no action on the complaints by people, today people stepped out and launched protest on the national highway.
Traffic movement was disrupted and came to a halt from both sides leading to jam. The people who blocked the highway are residents of colonies and villages in the area around Pratappura.
Women also took part in the protest. First, the highway was blocked by putting up police barricades and then some women sat on the road. Protesting villagers raised slogans against the state government. The police is trying to open the traffic by talking to the villagers.
The place where the highway has been blocked is the entrance of Jalandhar. Thousands of vehicles pass through the said highway daily. The route from Jalandhar to Nakodar, Shahkot, Moga, Dharamkot and many other districts passes through the said highway. Now people are facing problems due to the highway jam.
