Power Crisis deepens in Punjab as demand reaches record high of 16708 MW

Chandigarh: Due to the severe heat and the ongoing sowing of paddy, the demand for electricity has broken all the previous records. At the same time, Powercom is also facing a lot of difficulty in supplying electricity which is further deepening the power crisis. People are not getting relief from the extreme heat and meanwhile the unannounced power cuts in between is exacerbating whole situation for people of the state.

The demand for electricity in a day has now reached 16078 MW which is a new record in itself. At the same time, the fault in Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant and Lahra Mohabbat has also increased the trouble of the officials.

On Wednesday, 5079 units of electricity were available from various thermal plants in the state. In such a situation, 10398 MW of electricity was taken under the exchange program. However, even after that, there was a gap of about 604 MW.

At the same time, if experts have denied the situation of power crisis in the state.If they are believed then, the power consumption is 42 percent, while the peak demand is 33 percent. Officials say that the stock of coal is still there and in such a situation, there is no need to worry much.

Most complaints from Mohali

The department has received more than 39 thousand complaints regarding power problems. Out of these, 9 thousand complaints were resolved.

Most complaints have come from Zirakpur in Mohali. There were about six thousand complaints from here. Apart from this, complaints are coming from many districts including Barnala, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Amritsar. Meanwhile, CM had already held a meeting with Powercom officials in this matter. He had said that people will not have to face any kind of problem.
