Power dept employee beaten up after power theft raid

In the Nilo Kalan village of Samrala in Ludhiana, a department employee was beaten up for catching electricity theft. A consumer owed an electricity bill of Rs 42,990. The department had disconnected his connection for not paying the bill.

Contractual employee of the electricity department Gurmeet Singh was given the responsibility of disconnecting the connections of defaulters and keeping an eye on them. When he went to the village to check again, he found that the consumer had illegally connected a wire to another meter. Gurmeet Singh cut the wire of the illegal connection.

Angry with this action, a woman and some other people first abused Gurmeet Singh. Later, they came to the Katani Kalan Powercom office and beat him up. The video of the entire incident has also surfaced.

The employee has complained with the police in this matter. Kumkalan police station SHO Jagdeep Singh said that the complaint has been received and the matter is being investigated.
