Patiala: The uproar in the form of protest over the sudden inspection and inappropriate comments made by the Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi National Law University (RGNUL) Patiala has entered the fifth day. Meanwhile, three members of the 9-member committee formed to resolve the matter have resigned.
The members who resigned include Controller of Examinations Dr. Sharanjit Kaur, Dean of Students Welfare Dr. Manoj Sharma, and Assistant Professor Dr. Jasleen Kevlani. On the said resignations, the Registrar of the University said that there was some misunderstanding and thus resignations have been rejected.
Students of the university have been protesting over Vice Chancellor Jai Shankar’s sudden inspection of the girls hostel and alleged inappropriate remarks over the clothing and dressing sense. Yesterday, it was reported that the health condition of three students deteriorated due to heat. Today the protest of students entered 5th day. Protesting students have been demanding VC Shankar’s resignation.
Women’s Commission Chairperson met students
Punjab Women’s Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill also reached the Patiala-based university. She has reviewed the entire matter. She has talked to the students and the VC. She said in a conversation with the media that the matter will be resolved soon.
She said that she had heard the complaints of the students and also met the Vice Chancellor. In a post on X, Raj Gill said, “Met students of the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala, listened to all their grievances and assured them of all the support. It’s their right to protest n our duty to resolve the issues. At the end of my meeting, they were all happy to have dialogue with the selected committee of the university and carry on with their studies there after. ”
