Amritsar: Amid the recent removal of Giani Raghbir Singh from the of Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib and Giani Sultan Singh from Sri Kesgarh Sahib, unrest has began to simmer within the Shiromani Akali Dal. Senior Leader Bikramjit Singh Majithia, alongside six other prominent figures, has raised strong objections to the decision, while party Working President Balwinder Singh Bhundar has accused Majithia of betraying both the party and the Badal Family.
The conflict stemming from the removal of the Jathedars, has created a visible rift between the Majithia and Badal families. The two families, historically connected by both Political and familial ties, are now facing deep divisions. Harsimrat Kaur, the daughter of Majithia family, is married to Sukhbir Singh Badal, the son of former Chief Minister of Punjab, Parkash Singh Badal.
Amid this tension, Gurpratap Singh Wadala, a member of the recruitment committee formed by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, affirmed that the ongoing membership drive will continue as planned, under the direction of the Jthedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Majithia’s Protest against SGPC decision
The protests within the Akali Dal gained momentum when Bikram Majithia, along six senior leaders Sardar Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Lakhbir Singh Lodhinangal, Sardar Jodh Singh Samra, Sarabjit Singh Sabi, Ramandeep Singh Sandhu and Simarjit Singh Dhillon issued a joint statement condemning the decision by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). The statement expressed their deep disappointment, stating that the recent decision has hurt the Sikh community and went against the values upheld by Guru Sahib Ji.
The leaders emphasized that they would not tolerate outside interference in religious matters and vowed to protect Sikh traditions from being undermined. They called on others to stand with the Sikh community in preserving their faith and values.
Bhunder criticizes Majithia’s actions
Shiromani Akali Dal’s working president Balwinder Singh Bhundar issued a written statement after Bikram Majithia’s protest. In which he said- Bikram Singh Majithia has done wrong by questioning the decision of SGPC, whereas this is the same committee whose first president was his great grandfather Sundar Singh Majithia. The decision taken by the interim committee of SGPC regarding Jathedar Sahiban has been taken after long deliberations.
Bhunder condemned Majithia’s actions, urging him to abondon what he described as a “consipiracy” and to stand with the party to preserve the legacy of the Badal family.
