Ludhiana: The protesting employees of Punjab State Electricity Corporation Limited (PSPCL) have announced that their mass leave demonstration will be extended by five more days. This decision was taken in a meeting of 20 unions representing linemen, junior engineers and sub-divisional level officers.
After this decision, the common people will have to face a lot of trouble. Because if there is a power outage in any area or there is a problem in the transformer, then it is difficult to solve that problem.
The meeting is being led by PSPCL Employees Joint Forum, Bijli Karamchari Ekta Manch Punjab and Junior Engineers Association. Apart from extending the mass leave, the agitating employees also announced that on September 17, they will take out a huge protest rally to the PSPCL headquarters in Patiala.
Gurpreet Singh Mahdooda, a union leader, said that Grievance Redressal Bikers (CHB), outsourced linemen will also join the protest. Balihar Singh, president of Powercom and Transco Contractual Employees Union, the organization representing CHB, joined the protest and addressed it.
He said that PSPCL employees have demanded financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to the family of the deceased employee and status of martyr, government job to one family member of the deceased, free treatment to regular and contract workers in case of injury and regularization (permanent) of contractual workers.
Earlier this week, on Monday, the workers had announced a three-day mass leave. Before this, they had been protesting under ‘work to rule’ since August 21. All the employees of SDO rank are on strike, which includes SDO, Junior Engineer (JE), lineman, assistant lineman and now contract workers and CHB will also be on strike.
