Chandigarh: There will be a public holiday on 6 December in Punjab. The Holiday has been declared by Punjab government across all districts of state. Due to this, schools, colleges, government offices, boards, corporations and other institutions will remain closed. 6 December is the martyrdom day of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji and in view of that holiday will be there in Punjab.

Let us tell you that before Punjab, the Chandigarh administration had also announced a holiday on 6 December. In commemoration of the martyrdom day of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji, this special holiday has been amended by the Punjab government giving importance.

Guru Teg Bahadur Ji: History of sacrifice and protection of religion

Guru Teg Bahadur Ji was the ninth Sikh Guru who is remembered for his courage, sacrifice, and protector of religion. He was born on 1 April 1621 in Amritsar, Punjab to Guru Hargobind Ji and Mata Nanaki. His original name was ‘Tyag Mal’, but due to his courageous deeds and unique sacrifice, he was given the title of ‘Teg Bahadur’.
