Jalandhar, April 20: The Punjab Government has declared a public holiday on Tuesday, April 29, to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Shri Parshuram Ji. As per the official notification, all schools, colleges, government offices, and commercial establishments across the state will remain closed on this day. The date is also included in the government’s official list for holidays for 2024.
Lord Parshuram, regarded as the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was born on the Trititya Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaisakh. This year, that falls on April 29. He is believed to be one of the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu and is widely worshipped across India, especially on this day.
The day is also associated with Akshaya Tritiya, a highly auspicious occasion in Hindu culture. It is believed that buying gold on this day brings prosperity. In many places, unresolved marriages are solemnised on Akshaya Tritiya, making the day even more significant.
According to religious beliefs, Lord Prashuram is one of the eight Chiranjeevis who are still present on earth. His birth is said to have occurred during Pradosh Kall, which is why that time is considered particularly sacred for rituals.
