PUNBUS-PRTC contract workers union cancels strike after agreement with Transport Minister

The strike called by PUNBUS and PRTC Contract Workers Union, which was scheduled from April 7 to April 9 across Punjab, has been cancelled.

Jalandhar: The strike called by PUNBUS and PRTC Contract Workers Union, which was scheduled from April 7 to April 9 across Punjab, has been cancelled. The decision came after a successful meeting between union leaders and the state’s Transport Minister. Union Chief, Resham Singh Gill, confirmed the cancellation and shared details about the meeting.

During the meeting with the Transport Minister, several key issues were discussed, including the introduction of a transport policy, the cancellation of the kilometer scheme buses, and ensuring that PRTC and PUNBUS contract employees receive benefits and salaries on par with government employees. As a result of the positive discussions and assurances from the minister, the union decided to withdraw the strike call.

Union Plans meeting with Finance Minister on April 9

Reshan Singh Gill also revealed that the union employees will meet the Finance Minister and the Advocate General of Punjab on April 9. The union intends to discuss further demands and strategies after the meeting. The primary demand from the union is to make the employees permanent, and they have received assurances regarding this matter. However, if no concrete solution is reached after the meeting, the union will hold another meeting with its employees to discuss the next steps.

This development marks a significant shift, as the strike, which was expected to disrupt transport services across the state, has been postponed for now.
