Punjab: 29 head teachers of government schools dismissed in Punjab

29 Head Teachers have been dismissed from their jobs with immediate effect in Punjab.

29 Head Teachers have been dismissed from their jobs with immediate effect in Punjab. According to the information given by the State Project Director of Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, Punjab, although all these Head Teachers had filed special leave petitions in the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of the country had not issued a stay order on the appointments of all of them, which is why they have been dismissed.

In October 2013, Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, Punjab had issued an advertisement announcing the recruitment of 264 posts of Head Teachers/Head Teachers on contract basis. These appointments were made, but those who could not be appointed then and those who were not retained, challenged all those appointments in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, saying that many candidates had their experience certificates signed by the District Education Officer (DEO) after the last date of applying for recruitment, i.e. 27-11-2013.

The court admitted this writ petition for hearing and directed the education officers to take necessary action by issuing ‘show cause notices’ to the 40 headmasters who were previously selected. Then the hearings continued. The office of Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan appointed 29 new headmasters on contract basis in the year 2020, based on the decision of the single bench of the High Court, but at the same time, a condition was imposed that their future should be decided according to the outcome of the pending court case in the double bench.

Now, in the face of the decision in favor of accepting the experience certificates of previously working head teachers in the pending case in the double bench, the education authorities have issued orders to terminate the services of 29 contract-based head teachers.
