Chandigarh: The Punjab government will provide new employment opportunities to the youth in the coming days. Veterinary officers will be recruited on 300 posts.

Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian has confirmed this. He said that 326 veterinary officers and 536 veterinary inspectors have been recruited in the last year. The Government of India has submitted a plan to spend Rs 93 crore for the purchase of medicines and equipment in animal hospitals.

Vaccination will be completed this month

A vaccination campaign is being run in the state to protect animals from foot and mouth disease and anthrax. This campaign will be completed by June 30. Director of Animal Husbandry Department Dr. Ranjeev Bali said that in the campaign so far, about 78 percent and 75 percent of the animals have been vaccinated to protect them from foot and mouth disease and anthrax disease.

The government has come forward to promote dairy farming in Punjab. For the purchase of dairy animals, 25 percent assistance is provided to the general category and 33 percent assistance is provided to the people belonging to Scheduled Castes. Under this scheme, the fixed rate per animal is Rs 70 thousand. The department has given assistance of two crores for 1089 dairy animals during 2023-24.

He said that the department has also provided financial assistance for 7200 milch animals to livestock farmers within the past five weeks under National Livestock Scheme, under which financial assistance is being provided to small/medium milk producers for insurance of one to five milch animals.

50 percent financial assistance is being given to the general category, while 70 percent financial assistance for the SC farmers, mentioned the Animal Husbandry Minister.
