Amritsar, July 4: Today, an illegal colony was demolished with a bulldozer in Amritsar. This action was taken on the instructions of ADA Chief Administrator Nitesh Kumar Jain and Additional Chief Administrator Inayat. The action was taken by the Development Authority (PUDA) in Pakharpura village on the Amritsar-Pathankot National Highway.
District town planner Gursevak Singh Aulakh said that a notice was issued to the owners of the colony under the PAPRA Act-1995. Despite the notice, the owners did not give any clarification and continued the construction work. This colony was earlier demolished on 31 December 2024. But the owners had started construction again.
According to the amendment 2024 of the Papra Act-1995, those who build unauthorized colonies can face 5 to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of 25 lakh to 5 crores. The department has written a letter to the police to register an FIR against 26 unauthorized colonizers and builders.
Construction work is being stopped by issuing notices
The regulatory wing of PUDA is continuously inspecting illegal colonies in Amritsar district. If violation of rules is found, construction work is being stopped by issuing notices. Along with this, instructions are being given to the police station in-charges for legal action.
District Town Planner (Regulatory) Amritsar has appealed to the general public that before buying plots in illegal colonies which are not approved by the PUDA department, they must take the approval issued by PUDA in relation to that colony, so that their property is not damaged and it does not become a cause of trouble for them. Apart from this, he also appealed that before doing any kind of construction at any place in the district, the necessary approval should be obtained from the PUDA department.
