Punjab and Haryana High Court disposes off MP Amritpal Singh’s Petition on Parliamentary Attendance and MP LAD Fund

During the proceedings, the Counsel for the Union of India apprised the court that Amritpal Singh’s leave had been recommended and that his parliamentary membership would not be affected due to his absence.

Chandigarh: Today the DB comprising the Chief Justice and Justice Sumeet Goyal of Punjab and Haryana High Court took up for resumed hearing of CWP No. 5000 of 2025, filed by Amritpal Singh, WPD seeking permission to allow him to attend parliament sessions.

During the proceedings, the Counsel for the Union of India apprised the court that Amritpal Singh’s leave had been recommended and that his parliamentary membership would not be affected due to his absence.

Senior Advocate Anupam Gupta, representing the State of Punjab, referred to previous Supreme Court judgments, asserting that a person under preventive detention has no right to attend parliamentary sessions.

The court further observed that Amritpal Singh should submit a representation to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha regarding the release of MP/Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds. Thereafter, the Bench disposed of the petition.

Earlier, the day before the parliamentary committee tasked with considering leave requests of Lok Sabha MPs Monday recommended a 54-day leave of absence for NSA detainee and Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh based on two applications submitted by him in the past.
