Chandigarh, July 14: Today was the third day of the special session of the Punjab Assembly. During the meeting, a bill prepared to make a strict law regarding sacrilege cases was approved. Under this law, those who sacrilege religious texts and places will be sentenced to life imprisonment.

This bill will be presented in the assembly today and then before implementing it, opinions will also be taken from various organizations and common people.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has clearly said that the government wants to bring such a law which is permanent and remains strongly implemented in the future as well. Therefore, no kind of weakness will be left in it.

At present, there is a provision of a maximum of 3 years of imprisonment under Section 298 and 299 of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) for cases like sacrilege. But the Punjab government is proposing to increase this punishment to at least 10 years and up to life imprisonment.

Those attempting this crime can also face a jail term of three to five years, while those instigating the crime will be punished according to the crime. At the same time, the government wants to add such provisions in the law that will fix responsibility not only on the culprit but also on his family. The aim is that no one should even think of doing such an act again.
