Punjab By-Elections: Last day to file nomination today, Polling on Nov 13

After the time for filing nominations ends this afternoon, the scrutiny committee will examine the documents on October 28.

Chandigarh: Today is the last day to file nominations for the assembly by-elections in Punjab. By-elections are going to be held on November 13 in the state’s 4 assembly seats namely, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal, Gidderbaha and Barnala. Today, i.e. on Friday, many big leaders of Punjab will file nominations. At the same time, the associates of Khadoor Sahib MP and Khalistan supporter Amritpal have taken back their decision to contest the elections.

After the time for filing nominations ends this afternoon, the scrutiny committee will examine the documents on October 28. Talking about the last 5 days, about 26 affidavits have reached the Election Commission. Today is the last day, big leaders will file nominations on Dera Baba Nanak and Chabbewal seats.

Khalistan supporter and Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh’s associates have decided not to contest the by-elections. All these associates are lodged in Dibrugarh jail along with Amritpal Singh. Daljit Kalsi was the first to refuse to contest the elections from Dera Baba Nanak. Apart from Kalsi, Kulwant Singh Rauke from Barnala and Bhagwant Singh from Gidderbaha had announced to contest the election.

Yesterday in major political development, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) decided not to field its candidates in the assembly by-elections to be held on four seats in the state. This decision was taken in the meeting of the party’s working committee and district heads in Chandigarh. This is the first time in Punjab after 1992 that the Akali Dal has decided not to field candidates in any election to be held in the state.
