Chandigarh: The nomination process for the by-elections to be held on four assembly seats of Punjab has started from today (Friday). During this time, elections are to be held in Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal, Gidderbaha and Barnala. Election officers and returning officers were already appointed by the commission for the elections. At the same time, nominations will also be filed on Saturday. The MLAs of these seats have now become MPs.
They have resigned from the assembly. Therefore, elections are going to be held here. At the same time, political parties are also fully prepared for the elections.
The nomination process will run till October 25 (Friday) and scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on October 28, while the last date for withdrawal of nomination is October 30. Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C said that voting will be held on November 13 and the result will be declared after counting of votes on November 23. Voting time will be from 7 am to 6 pm.
Sibin C said that from October 18, 2024, to October 25, except for public holidays, nomination papers can be filed with the respective Returning Officers on all other prescribed days from 11 am to 3 pm. Nomination papers are to be filled in Form 2B.
Blank forms are available with the concerned Returning Officer. Typed nomination papers will also be accepted, provided they are in the prescribed format. Nominations will be filled tomorrow as well. He said that there is no holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 on the third Saturday i.e. October 19.
