Punjab CEO Sibin C instructs DCs to take special steps to ensure facilities for polling staff

Sibin C said that following the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, the Deputy Commissioners of Punjab have been asked to ensure adequate arrangements

Chandigarh: During Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in Punjab, Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C has all the Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers to provide facilities to polling staff in view of the scorching heat. Guidelines have been issued to take appropriate steps in view of the forecast made by the Meteorological Department regarding excessive heat on the polling day i.e. June 1.

Giving information in this regard, Sibin C said that following the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, the Deputy Commissioners of Punjab have been asked to ensure adequate arrangements for the welfare and convenience of the polling staff during the election process.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that Punjab is going under polls on June 1, 2024 and the heat will be at its peak during these days. Therefore, in order to protect the polling staff from heat, all the Deputy Commissioners have been asked to ensure adequate arrangements at polling stations and other centers related to elections, where shade, drinking water, waiting area, clean toilets for men and women are provided.

He further said that in the letter issued to all Deputy Commissioners, officials have been asked to deploy necessary medicines (ORS solution etc.) and paramedical staff at all training places, dispersal and collection centers, polling stations.

These instructions are also given for provision of coolers, refreshments etc. for the staff, public grievance redressal system, adequate provision of tents for relief from heat, provision of indicator signs and polling after reaching the polling party collection centers and handing over the polling materials. Staff have been asked to ensure transport facilities to leave home. The Chief Electoral Officer has also issued clear instructions to the Deputy Commissioners regarding the submission of election materials. It has also been asked to ensure beds, refreshments, clean toilets and medical facilities for polling staff, micro observers and security staff (both police and CAPF) at the polling station.
