Chandigarh: Dense fog prevailed in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, while the minimum temperature in the region remained near normal. Meteorological department officials said that large parts of Upper India have been under the grip of dense fog for the past few days, due to which the visibility distance through the fog has reduced at most places.
Chandigarh witnessed dense fog in the morning and the minimum temperature was recorded at 10.4 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees above normal. They said the minimum temperature remained near normal at most places in both the states. Over 400 flights were delayed at Delhi airport on Friday due to fog affecting visibility. But none were diverted. Visibility was reduced to zero in many areas of the capital. On the other hand, flights were affected in Srinagar as the visibility remained around 300 meters.
The Meteorological Department said that Amritsar in Punjab recorded a minimum temperature of 7.2 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees above normal, followed by Ludhiana at 8.4 degrees Celsius, Patiala at 8.2 degrees Celsius, Faridkot at 6.8 degrees Celsius and Barnala at 7.4 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature in Sri Anandpur Sahib was 9.4 degrees Celsius, while Bathinda and Gurdaspur recorded a minimum temperature of five degrees Celsius. Although the minimum temperature remained close to normal at most places, the daytime temperature has decreased and has been between 12 and 16 degrees Celsius for the last few days.
