As part of the ongoing campaign against drugs in Punjab, “Operation Satark” was launched on Friday night. DGP Gaurav Yadav himself came out on the streets at night for checking. During this, he himself conducted a surprise check of the blockade being done by the police at midnight in Jalandhar and Amritsar. At the same time, ADGP A.Srai and Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma inspected sensitive areas in Ludhiana.
DGP Gaurav Yadav inspected the checkpoints set up outside Amritsar’s Golden Gate, Railway Station and Cheharta police station area and talked to the police officers and jawans on the spot. He himself did the checking and boosted the morale of the deployed policemen.
In Jalandhar, DGP Yadav went to the checkpoint near PIMS Hospital and Thana 7 and did the checking. During this, he also met the police officers and the people present at the checkpoint. While talking to the people, he assured that Punjab will soon be made drug free.
In a conversation with journalists, DGP Gaurav Yadav said that “Operation Saakar” is being run to make the security arrangements foolproof during the festive season. Under this, he himself is checking the checkpoints. He said that in the last one month, Punjab Police has achieved many big successes. Many drug smugglers have been arrested and big gangs have been exposed.
Drones and border monitoring system tightened the noose
The DGP said that anti-drone system has been introduced to stop drug smuggling through drones, which is proving to be very effective. Also, about 2100 cameras will be installed to increase surveillance in the border areas, so that drug smugglers can be completely tightened.
