Jalandhar: In a continued effort to bolster law enforcement and foster stronger police-public relations, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Friday night conducted surprise inspections in Jalandhar district as part of the statewide ‘Night Domination’ initiative. The exercise, launched under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is aimed at ensuring public safety and reinforcing the state’s fight against crime, especially drug trafficking.
Beginning his inspection at a special checkpoint outside Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), the DGP reviewed Nakabandi operations and assessed the on-ground functioning of the police force. Accompanied by Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur, he also engaged directly with local residents to gather feedback on police functioning.
“I am pleased to know that citizens feel safer due to our enhanced presence. Our priority remains ensuring the security of every individual while fostering trust through transparent and accountable policing,” DGP Yadav stated.
The DGP subsequently visited Police Division No. 7 at Urban Estate, inspecting the police station and expressing satisfaction over its functioning. He encouraged police personnel at the grassroots level to maintain high standards of professionalism while monitoring the effectiveness of vehicle checking operations.
Further inspections were carried out at the Police Check Point near Dussehra Ground in Jalandhar Cantonment, where the DGP personally supervised the checking drive, underscoring the department’s commitment to proactive policing.
Highlighting his ongoing efforts to enhance police-community relations, DGP Yadav said, “Over the past few months, I have been regularly visiting police stations, interacting with officers, and engaging with citizens to boost morale and foster a stronger connection between the police force and the public.”
Speaking to the media, DGP Yadav said that, with the upcoming Vaisakhi festival, large-scale ‘Night Domination’ exercises were being carried out across Punjab, with senior officers leading field inspections to ensure law and order.
He further cautioned that, being a border state, Punjab remains vulnerable to attempts by external agencies like the ISI to disrupt its peace and harmony. He asserted that ever since the Punjab Government launched an aggressive campaign against drugs under the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ initiative, cross-border drug syndicates have been making attempts to destabilize the state.
However, DGP Yadav assured that Punjab Police is fully prepared to deal with any challenge. “Punjab has witnessed a significant decline in drug availability due to the success of our campaign. We are committed to uprooting the drug menace completely,” he said.
Reiterating the Punjab Government’s resolve, the DGP affirmed that Punjab Police will leave no stone unturned in its mission to make Punjab one of the safest states in the country. “With the coordinated efforts of the Punjab Police and the people of Punjab, we will continue to safeguard the state’s peace and security,” he added.
