Punjab cracks down on child trafficking: DNA tests ordered for children found begging on streets

The Punjab government has taken a big step by taking seriously the increasing number of beggars on the streets.

Amritsar, July 17: The Punjab government has taken a big step by taking seriously the increasing number of beggars on the streets. After the government’s orders, the Amritsar administration has immediately swung into action. Today (Thursday), several beggars and their children roaming in the Golden Gate area of Amritsar were detained.

During this operation, the administration and police especially caught those beggars who were begging with small children. There is a fear that these children may be exploited or that they are not their real relatives. In such cases, DNA tests of the children will be done so that it can be known whether they are really their parents or not.

Orders given to all Deputy Commissioners of the Punjab Government

The Punjab government has taken a strict decision regarding children begging on the streets. Deputy commissioners of all districts have been instructed to get DNA tests done of children who are seen begging under suspicious circumstances. It is suspected that in many cases these children do not belong to their parents and may be victims of human trafficking or forced labour.

81 teams formed for surveillance in the state

Under this campaign, 81 teams have been formed in the state, which will monitor the hot spots of 8 districts. This campaign is being run with the cooperation of the Social Security, Women and Child Development Department and the Police. The DNA test report will reveal whether there is a biological relationship between the child and the adults accompanying them. If any discrepancy is found, legal action will be taken against the person concerned.
