Punjab: Door-to-Door ration distribution stopped, beneficiaries to receive ‘wheat grains’ from onwards

From July 1, wheat will be distributed by Pangrain and ration depot holders will also distribute wheat as was done initially.

The Punjab government has decided to stop door-to-door ration, its flagship scheme for distribution of ‘Wheat Flour’ to National Food Security Act (NFSA) beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will now be given only wheat. A meeting of all the district managers of Markfed was held in this regard, which was held under the chairmanship of Markfed Managing Director Girish Dayalan.

From July 1, wheat will be distributed by Pangrain and ration depot holders will also distribute wheat as was done initially. It has also been decided that this time instead of distributing grain for three months (5 kg per beneficiary per month), wheat for four months i.e. from July to October will be distributed.

In fact, officials have been asked to take charge of the fair price shops, models run by three ‘atta’ distributors partners which includes Kendriya Bhandar, RK Associate and Brindavan Food Products.

While the shops run by Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) will remain with them.

A total of 628 shops have been set up in the state under the scheme. After the order, Markfed officials started taking charge of the shops.
