Chandigarh: The Punjab government has prepared its agriculture policy. The policy recommends a legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) on all crops and pension for farmers and labourers having less than five acres of land. Apart from this, it has also been recommended to bring a Pani Bachao Paisa Kamao scheme to give special discounts to farmers who save water and electricity.
The draft of the policy has been released. Now opinions will be taken from farmers and experts in this field in this matter. After this, the policy will be implemented.
While making the policy, an attempt was made to touch every issue related to farmers, so that farmers can benefit. The draft talks about preparing a pension plan for farmers after the age of 60 years. The draft also talks about preparing a loan waiver plan for small farmers.
It has also been discussed about improving the Public Distribution System (PDS). It has been written in the draft that the Punjab government should raise this matter before the central government. At the same time, emphasis has also been laid on promoting organic farming and diversification.
The policy also focuses on women. It has been mentioned that options should also be explored to give land ownership rights to women. Priority should be given to women engaged in agriculture work while leasing the common land of the village.
Earlier, when the monsoon session of the Punjab government started, a protest was held in Chandigarh by the Bharatiya Kisan Ekta Ugrahan. This issue was raised in the Punjab Assembly. After this, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann held a meeting with the farmers for about two and a half hours in Punjab Bhawan.
