The Excise Department has confiscated 175 boxes of English Liquor (IMFL) valued at approximately Rs 5 lakh, which were being illegally transported into Punjab from Chandigarh.
Excise Officer of the Ropar Range, Shekhar, reported that acting on the directions of Punjab Excise Commissioner IAS Varun Ruzam and Deputy Commissioner (Excise) of Patiala Zone, Udaideep Singh Sidhu, the Excise Department of Rupnagar collaborated with Rupnagar Police to carry out the operation. As a result, they seized 175 boxes of IMFL worth Rs 5 lakh that were being smuggled from Chandigarh into Punjab.
The operation was conducted on the night of October 26 and 27, following a tip-off, under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Excise, Ropar Range, Ashok Chalotra, and Excise Inspector Jorawar Singh, in conjunction with Ropar Police. During their vehicle checks near Behrampur, Rupnagar, they intercepted a vehicle with registration number HP-31-E-2931, which contained 175 cartons of IMFL meant solely for sale in Chandigarh.
The seized liquor was produced by Shivalik Beverages Private Limited, located in Chandigarh. Two individuals were arrested at the scene, and a case has been registered under the Excise Act.
