The posts of Information Commissioners were lying vacant in Punjab for a long time. After this, the matter reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Nikhil Thamman had filed a petition in the court in this regard. The petitioner had argued that the fundamental right to information is being violated due to the non-appointment of information commissioners in the Information Commission.

With 10 posts of Information Commissioners vacant, appeals and complaints are not being settled properly. Also, the number of complaints is increasing.

During the hearing, the Punjab government had told the court that the entire process of information commissioners will be completed by August 30. The process is going on for this. The court had told the petitioner that if the process was not completed, then he could come to the court.
