The Punjab government on Wednesday announced the appointment of various law officers in the Advocate General (AG) office and extension of tenure of the already appointed officers. These officers will plead legal matters on behalf of the state government in the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Supreme Court.
The government has extended the tenure of a total of 111 judicial officers, Additional Advocate General (AAG), Senior Deputy Advocate General, Deputy Advocate General (DAG), Assistant Advocate General and Advocates on Record. These officers are working in both Chandigarh and Delhi.
Senior advocate Shadan Farasat, who is representing Punjab as Additional Advocate General in the Supreme Court, has also got his tenure extended. Advocates Gaurav Dhama, Rajat Bhardwaj and Rajesh Mahajan have got extension as AAG in Delhi. At the same time, advocate Vivek Jain has been appointed as the new AAG in Delhi.
The appointment of Advocate Talha Abdul Rehman, Rishikesh Kumar and Bhakti Pasrija as Deputy Advocate General has been retained. Apart from these, Advocate Prateek Krishna Chadha and Tushar Sanu Dahiya have been newly appointed as DAG.
In Chandigarh, the government has appointed 18 Additional Advocate Generals, 7 Senior Deputy Advocate Generals, 24 Deputy Advocate Generals and 35 Assistant Advocate Generals.
It is worth noting that after the resignation of Senior Advocate Gurminder Singh, Advocate Maninderjit Singh Bedi was appointed as the new Advocate General of Punjab on March 30. After this, Senior Advocate Anu Chatrath was appointed as Senior Additional Advocate General and a new order has also been issued for him today.
