Chandigarh: Former Home Minister of Rajasthan Government and veteran BJP leader Gulabchand Kataria has been made the Governor of Punjab. Along with this, he will also hold the post of Administrator of Chandigarh. Earlier, he was appointed Governor of Assam in February 2023 last year. This is his second appointment as Governor.
At the same time, the President has accepted the resignation of former Governor Banwari Lal Purohit. Kataria, who made his living as a teacher in a private school, contested elections for the first time in 1977. He was elected MLA from Udaipur city seat.
After this he did not look back. It is said that he contested a total of 11 elections in his lifetime, out of which he won 9. In the year 1998, he won the election as an MP from Sadari. By winning the last election in 2018, he reached the 15th Rajasthan Legislative Assembly.
