Punjab-Haryana water dispute: High Court sends notice to Centre, Haryana and BBMB

During this, the High Court has issued notice to the Central Government, Haryana and BBMB. Also, the next hearing of this case will be on May 20.

Amid the ongoing water dispute between Haryana and Punjab, a review petition filed by the Punjab government was heard in the Punjab and Haryana High Court today. During this, the High Court has issued notice to the Central Government, Haryana and BBMB. Also, the next hearing of this case will be on May 20.

On the other hand, an important meeting of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) is going to be held, in which engineers from Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan will participate. In this, a strategy will be prepared on the issue of water to be released in the months of May and June.

The High Court has heard the Punjab government’s review petition on the order to release excess water from the Bhakra Dam. The High Court has issued notices to all the respondents and sought their replies. The matter will be heard on May 20 along with the main petition.

The petition seeks to quash or modify the order passed on May 6, 2025, which was issued in compliance with the decisions of the meeting held on May 2 under the chairmanship of the Home Secretary of the Central Government.

The Punjab government says that this order was obtained by the BBMB (Bhakhra Beas Management Board) by concealing important facts. The petition says that if there is any policy decision or issue affecting the rights of a state, then it should be sent to the Central Government under Rule 7 of the BBMB Rules, 1974.

Punjab says that this matter has already been sent to the Central Government and no decision has been taken from there. Despite this, the BBMB called a meeting on April 30 and unilaterally decided to provide water to Haryana.
