Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has rejected the negative comments made against the mining contractor in the report of the Justice Narang Commission set up to probe the sand mining auction scam. In this case, the commission gave a clean chit to Rana Gurjit Singh.
In 2017, the Punjab government had issued a tender for mining in 102 mine sites. According to the allegations, the representatives of some influential leaders won the tenders using their influence.
Later, the Punjab government formed the Justice Narang Commission to investigate the matter. After the investigation, the commission gave a clean chit to Rana Gurjit Singh and made adverse comments in the report about Sanjit Singh Randhawa, the owner of the company that won the tender. Remarks were made against 4 including Sanjeet Singh Randhawa, Sahil Singla, Amit Bahadur and Kulvinder Paul Singh in relation with mining scam.
It was challenged by filing a petition in the High Court. While pronouncing its order, the High Court said that the Commission did not give the petitioner an opportunity to be heard while making these comments. Also, they were not told what material they had against the petitioner, and doing so is against the principles of justice. In such a situation, the High Court dismissed all the adverse comments made by the commission.
