Phagwara: Firstly, the sticky heat, caused by rain, along with long power cuts have caused trouble for people. In Phagwara, a city with a large number of NRIs, a 22-hour long power cut forced people to seek rooms in hotels, while others had to search for water. The long power cut also drained the backup from the inverters installed in people’s homes. Many households resorted to cooking food by candlelight. It’s worth mentioning that the posh areas of Phagwara city, including Satnampura, Adarsh Nagar, Raja Garden, Santokhpura, Mansa Devi, and surrounding areas under the Hadiyabad feeder, experienced a power cut around 9:30 in the morning.
When people called the department and asked, they were told that the work of the transformer is going on and power will be restored by 3:30 in the afternoon. When the power did not come even by 4 o’clock and the inverters installed in the houses also started failing, people again contacted the department officials, they again got the reply that power will be restored by 8:30. But when there was a complete blackout at 9:30, people reached the electricity department office in Hadiyabad. Seeing the people gathering, the employees present in the office locked the office and quietly left the spot.
When people called the SDO late at night, he said that electricity will be restored by 11:00. But at 12:15, the electricity came for only two minutes and after that at 7:30 in the morning, the electricity came for half an hour and then there was a power cut again.
People say that the Bhagwant Mann government, which claims to provide electricity to the people without any cuts, has created history by imposing such a long power cut in Phagwara city. People say that till date there has never been such a long power cut in Phagwara.
